Abstract

There is a description on the back of the photo: "Command Module Pilot Donn F. Eisele, Commander Walter M. Schirra, Jr., and Lunar Module Pilot Walter Cunningham are in front of the hatch of the Apollo 7 Command Module in which they orbited earth for 10.8 days from October 11, 1968 to October 22, 1968. Apollo 7 is the first mission in which the spacecraft designed to fly American astronauts moonward was tried and tested in earth orbit by a crew of NASA Apollo astronauts. During the flight, eight successful Service Propulsion firings were accomplished; a rendezvous to 70 feet with the S-IVB stage of the Saturn was achiveved; and seven live TV interviews and demonstrations by the crew were transmitted to earth. The success of this pioneer mission paved the way for the next reach moonward--the flight into lunar orbit by Apollo 8."
