Mr. Wilkinson lived between 1895-1975.

Contents (from Preface): "AIRCRAFT ENGINES OF THE WORLD, 1954 edition, marks the twelfth year of publication of this international reference book. As in former volumes, it presents the latest information about jet engines and reciprocating engines from all over the world, in standardized page form. There are 84 new illustrations in this volume, and it has a new cover design. The contents are up to date as of May, 1954.

An important new feature has been added to the 1954 edition-an Accessories and Equipment Section which describes the latest activities of many important manufacturers in this field, with illustrations.

The Jet Engines and Gas Turbines Section occupies 146 pages, and includes standardized data of 77 power plants, with illustrations. The Introduction reviews the activities of more than 30 jet engine manufacturers in 11 countries. Tabulations of 47 turbojets, 18 turbojets with afterburners, and 14 turboprops, are included for comparative purposes.

Complete descriptions of 15 new engines are included-the Boeing T50, Continental T51, Pratt & Whitney J48-P-8 and J57-P-1, Westing house J46, Armstrong Siddeley Viper 5, Rolls-Royce Avon RA.7R and RA.14. Rolls-Royce Canada Nene 10, Hispano-Suiza Verdon, Marcel Dassault M.D.30, S.N.E.C.M.A. ATAR 101F and Vulcain, Turboméca Marcadau, and Nihon JO-1 (Japan). New specialized power plants such as the Boeing 502 shaft drive unit, Continental 140 air compressor, and Marquardt supersonic ramjets, are also described. All other engine specifications have been completely revised. There are 30 new photographs in this section, including the Pratt & Whitney J57 with afterburner.

The Reciprocating Engines Section occupies 106 pages. It includes 8 new engines: the Continental R-975-38, Lycoming 0-320 and GO-480, Bristol Centaurus 173, Canadian Pratt & Whitney PC-1, Potez 6D-30 and 8D-32, and E.N.M.A. Flecha. There is also a complete specification of the latest Napier Nomad compounded diesel, which is now in limited production.

The Accessories and Equipment Section which follows the engine section contains individualized write-ups covering 23 leading manutacturers in the United States and Great Britain. Each write-up mentions the latest products of the company, and illustrates one of them.

The Aircraft and Their Engines Section contains 7 tabulations giving data of 300 of the latest aircraft and their power plants, from all over the world. These tabulations include military jet aircraft, jet-engined and piston-engined airliners, cargo planes, and helicopters. More than 200 of these aircraft are jet propelled. Data of 21 jet-engined airliners--in production and projected--are included.

The Aviation Fuels and Lubricants tabulations at the back of the book have been revised in accordance with the latest data."
