Biographical / Historical
Alabama has a very rich history in disc sports, dating all the way back to the early 1970s when Tom Monroe set up the first disc golf course at the University of North Alabama. Nearing the mid-seventies, the Huntsville disc golf scene skyrocketed, and the Rocket City Chain Gang was formed in 1982. The club was led by many passionate players like Lavone Wolfe and Tom Monroe, quickly gaining attention and culminating in a successful hosting of the 2nd PDGA World Championship in 1983. The Rocket City Super Tour in 1990 solidified Huntsville's reputation as a disc golf hotspot, setting the stage for the city to showcase its world-class players. Huntsville has not only set the future for technology but has also developed world-class players.
