Scope and Contents
This collection focuses on US and international space history. It consists of papers written by Braun, photographs, course materials for Braun’s space history classes, and documents on international space history collected by Braun. International space history included is Russian, German, and Chinese.

Biographical / Historical
Julius Braun was born into a military family on September 21, 1924 in Fort Benning, Georgia. He enlisted in the army in 1942, where he fought in Europe during World War II. After that, he pursued a career in military research and development. Braun worked with V-2 rockets at White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico, and he would later go on to work closely with Wernher von Braun. He was project officer for army missiles, specifically on the first three Redstone missiles.
Over the course of his career, Braun worked at Rocketdyne, North American Rockwell, and Lockheed. He worked on many missiles and instruments, including Redstone, Jupiter, Thor, Atlas, Navaho, Lark, Bat, Terrier. In addition to his technical work, Julius Braun also taught courses in rocket and missile technology, as well as the history of space travel.
He passed away on July 25, 2016 in his home in San Antonio, Texas.
